Peanut seed is one of the important legume crops in tropical and semi-arid tropical countries, where it provides an important source of edible oil and vegetable protein, peanut seed contains 42-48% oil and 24-36% protein .
Peanuts are used in a variety of ways including peanut oil, roasted and salted peanuts, cooked peanuts, raw or as a paste popularly known as peanut butter (or peanuts). Peanut oil is the most important crop product, used for both domestic and industrial purposes. About 65% of the world’s peanut production is used to extract edible oil.

Uses
- Peanut kernels are usually eaten as is, by cracking them with firm pressure between the fingers or using cutters or a nutcracker. The Peanuut can also be enjoyed in salted nuts, confectionery, bakery, sweet chocolates, etc.
- Peanut butter is a food paste made from roasted nuts, with or without the addition of oil, it is popular throughout the world and is commonly used as a dipping paste.
- Roasted and crushed beans are often sprinkled on salads, desserts, especially ice cream and other ice cream-based preparations.
- The chutney or peanut paste, made with pepper, salt, coriander leaves, garlic and mustard seeds, is a popular dish in the region of southern India and Sri Lanka.
